We are seeking a highly skilled individual with the competence and experience to address challenges with confidence and professionalism. The accomplished engineering professional should have demonstrated skills in the areas of Flood Plain/Storm Drain System Management, land development, engineering design and/or construction, as well as policy and procedure interpretation in all civil engineering disciplines.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Prepares and oversees the preparation of complex and technical engineering studies, plans, and reports;
  • Assists the Division Manager and Senior Engineer in managing varying responsibilities including customer service, land development review, Flood plain Management, water/wastewater permitting, and on-call engineering field-assistance to City Maintenance personnel;
  • Coordinates and performs professional planning and engineering work, including reviewing proposed land development plans, and environmental impact reports (EIR), and recommends or develops appropriate mitigation measures;
  • Participates in the review, development, and/or revision of the various elements of plans, ordinances, and other policies and procedures;
  • Provide oversight of engineering consultants and/or co-workers;
  • Meets and works with professional and public groups;

  • Respond to residents regarding public works concerns;

  • Manages Public Works’ customer service counter and coordinates with customer service staff for all public works grading, paving and encroachment permits;

  • Assists in preparing basic engineering plans for roadway improvements including drainage and striping plans;

  • Prepares miscellaneous maps and drawings; participates in the filing and retrieval of engineering maps, documents, and records.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate should possess:                                                                                      

  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in civil engineering, structural engineering, or a related field
  • Two or more years of professional level engineering experience in design and or construction work
  • A valid certificate as an Engineer-in-Training issued by the State of California; an additional two years of professional level engineering experience may be substituted for the EIT certificate; a Professional Engineering certificate is preferred
  • A valid class C California driver’s license
  • Outstanding teamwork and interpersonal skills, including excellent customer relations skills
  • Strong organizational, research, and analytical skills
  • Ability to identify alternative solutions, consequences of proposed actions, and implement recommendations in support of established goals
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple deadlines, priorities, and concurrent projects with frequent interruptions
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and/or GIS systems and Bluebeam
