We are seeking a highly skilled individual with the competence and experience to address challenges with confidence and professionalism. The accomplished engineering professional should have demonstrated skills in the areas of Flood Plain/Storm Drain System Management, land development, engineering design and/or construction, as well as policy and procedure interpretation in all civil engineering disciplines.
Primary Responsibilities:
Prepares and oversees the preparation of complex and technical engineering studies, plans, and reports;
Assists the Division Manager and Senior Engineer in managing varying responsibilities including customer service, land development review, Flood plain Management, water/wastewater permitting, and on-call engineering field-assistance to City Maintenance personnel;
Coordinates and performs professional planning and engineering work, including reviewing proposed land development plans, and environmental impact reports (EIR), and recommends or develops appropriate mitigation measures;
Participates in the review, development, and/or revision of the various elements of plans, ordinances, and other policies and procedures;
Provide oversight of engineering consultants and/or co-workers;
Meets and works with professional and public groups;
Respond to residents regarding public works concerns;
Manages Public Works’ customer service counter and coordinates with customer service staff for all public works grading, paving and encroachment permits;
Assists in preparing basic engineering plans for roadway improvements including drainage and striping plans;
Prepares miscellaneous maps and drawings; participates in the filing and retrieval of engineering maps, documents, and records.
A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in civil engineering, structural engineering, or a related field
Two or more years of professional level engineering experience in design and or construction work
A valid certificate as an Engineer-in-Training issued by the State of California; an additional two years of professional level engineering experience may be substituted for the EIT certificate; a Professional Engineering certificate is preferred
A valid class C California driver’s license
Outstanding teamwork and interpersonal skills, including excellent customer relations skills
Strong organizational, research, and analytical skills
Ability to identify alternative solutions, consequences of proposed actions, and implement recommendations in support of established goals
Ability to effectively manage multiple deadlines, priorities, and concurrent projects with frequent interruptions
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
Knowledge of AutoCAD and/or GIS systems and Bluebeam
